Opening Film:
The idyllic tranquility of country life can be deceptive. For Myint Myint and Chit Shwe the jungle hides as many dangers and challenges as urban life in Rangoon, but after many trials and misadventures the young lovers are happily reunited.
The premiere of this newly restored classic will be accompanied live by Hein Tint and his Hsiang Waing ensemble, joined by Berlin musicians Meike Goosmann (saxophone) and Stefan Weeke (bass, slide guitar and piano). Special thanks for this event goes to the Goethe Institut, Yangon.
Admission to the opening ceremony is free, but please be advised that seating is limited. Read more…

A cinematheque (or archive) is much more than a resting place for the preservation of film, it is a space for circulation, for encounters and debates about films and, more broadly, for contemplating and learning about cinema. In that sense, it is very much a living and forward-thinking institution. What is the role of filmmakers here? For many of them, cinephilia describes not only their engagement with the moving image, but also their ability to participate in meaningful and stimulating encounters with other films. Can inspiration be found at the cinematheque of today? Does it continue to provide a venue where aesthetic and technical questions can be productively worked out?
